So this is right in our neighborhood and in over a year I've never been... Until last weekend. We gave it a shot, why not? The sandwiches were really tasty, it was shockingly spacious inside and child-friendly. They had several families there with the little ones and plenty of menu options to keep them happy. I give them credit, the prices are way way affordable and like I said, It's really yummy! It's not fancy so I wouldn't plan on it being much more than a very tasty lunch or dinner... They do breakfast but I don't know much about that, it was a smaller menu. Anyway, you'll enjoy their menu items - fresh, delicious and affordable.

I was in oak park for an appointment and i was about an hour early so I decided to get dinner. It was reminiscent of a cafeteria in the ordering/menu on the wall but it was just your basic restaurant with at the front order and sit down with a number to wait for your food. I ordered a very basic burger and fries. The fries tasted made-in-house and were very good. The burger was just ok. There was a loud group of families near me all eating together. I was slightly annoyed but it was no fault of Erik's. Then, one of the kid yells out "CHOCOLATE CHIP PANCAKE!" to the server setting down their meals and I quickly looked over to the menu on the wall and realize this kid is a freaking genius. On the kid's menu is a CHOCOLATE CHIP PANCAKE and this kid had one for dinner. He's the Real MVP. I could not have been more jealous of anyone at any time. I may be back next time I'm in oak park for the chocolate chip pancake.

I've been wanting to try this place out for awhile since I moved into the area. My friends went there a week before I did and thought it was good - they had lots of options. My husband and I came here on a Friday evening for dinner. It wasn't too busy..we strolled in after 630pm, but it started getting busy around 730pm. I guess that is dinner time for most people in this area. They do have lots of options on their menu. I feel they are trying to be like Jason's Deli.. but Jason's Deli is better than this place. I ordered the BBQ Chicken panini along with a bowl of clam chowder soup. My husband ordered their grilled steak burrito. Bad idea to order burrito at a deli place. My BBQ chicken panini was really good. I enjoyed it. It came with fries, and both my husband and I really enjoyed the fries. My husband's burrito was not good..you can tell by looking at it too. The shell was very thick..and it just didn't taste like a good burrito. Go figure. The bowl of clam chowder soup was thick...doesnt seem homemade to me, but not going to complain. Lots of seats..pretty cool place, decent food. An average deli place.

Pretty disappointing lunch. First of all, the menu is either on the wall where it is tucked my several tables so awkward or in small print by the cash register where it is hard to read. Getting through that we ordered a veggie panini, veggie burrito and blt wrap. $30 for the three including drinks which is not cheap. We then waited what seemed like a long, long time for the sandwiches. I had the burrito which was only ok-a bit soggy and it tasted more like a veggie wrap than burrito. I could not detect any real Mexican flavor and it was somewhat tasteless. The blt wrap was a bit better with lots of bacon but didn't taste great. Finally the veggie panini was also fine but not special. They claim the homemade chips are famous and that may be the case but not for either taste or crispness. The fries tasted good but we're a bit limp and soggy. I think we will head elsewhere on our next Oak Park visit.

I gave this deli the benefit of the doubt and returned today. I met up with a friend who had the day off since she works for the State of IL. This time I ordered the Chicken Panino sandwich with a choice of fries, fruit or chips. I opted for the fruit. The chicken sandwich was stuffed with red peppers and melted mozzarella cheese. It was overloaded with red peppers and not a lot of chicken breast. Although it was a big sandwich it was bland. Please season the chicken breast with something. My rating for the sandwich, 3-stars. The fruit was out of season and wasn't ripe enough, so I barely ate the mixed fruit. It came in a very tiny container. Fruit rating, 2 stars. Yes, it is "Panino" and not "Panini." Panino means ONE sandwich and is the singular version whereas Panini is the plural (more than one sandwich). This deli used to be excellent and serve high quality food. Maybe there is a new owner, so the quality here is 3-stars. I also had a small cup of wild rice chicken soup. It wasn't super salty but had a well-balanced flavor. There were 5 or 6 pieces of real chicken breast, but no carrots or celery and barely any rice. The soup, 2-stars. The restaurant was freezing cold (maybe they forgot to pay the heating bill) and I couldn't wait to leave. Also, there were some 4 and 5 year-old kids in the restaurant (school holiday) who were somewhat behaved until the last 15-minutes that we were there. They started to get a bit bored, cranky and started screaming at some point. I like kids a lot and don't mind kids in a restaurant, but once they start to misbehave, it is time for the parents to pull that child away in a private corner and have a talk with that child (or leave the restaurant all together). At that point, I wanted to get the "F" out of there! I gave this place a second chance, but there will be no third chance or any other time for that matter. My total came to $11 and change. Parking is not easy in this area either. Make sure you have a roll of quarters with you, because two quarters will only give you 30-minutes. Oak Park is behind the times when it comes to parking. Get rid of those freakin' meters and have a "Pay to Park" box instead.

I grew up in Oak Park so I've been to Erik's dozens of times growing up...after sports games, plays, and any other community event. This place was always packed after those types of events and during weekend brunch. The food was never 5-star quality but it was always good comfort food and they had amazing homemade chips. But the decor definitely needed an update back in the 90's - not that it really mattered. Business was great. I moved back to Oak Park a few years ago and Erik's is still here. It's since changed owners. The decor has been updated to a more contemporary decor but it doesn't work. The walls are way too dark and it looks a little dingy because of it. The menu is pretty much the same but the homemade chips are a little soggier in general and not nearly as good as before. For better or worse, the menu items taste the same and the few additions they have made to it aren't doing anything to help. Unlike in the past, this is not my go-to place for good comfort food nor is it the community's. I haven't seen more than 10 people here at any given time the few times I have grabbed a bite here recently.

I am a life long Oak Parker, my family has been going to Erik's since the 80s. To me, they can do no harm. I love salads and the French Chicken (not on the new menu but they will make it for you) is my favorite sandwich. I am a huge fan of fries but I get their homemade chips which are delicious!! This is a Panera wannabe. Side of fruit wasn't fresh. Tasted frozen. Turkey sandwich made with cheap store type bread. Beef barley soup made with small grains of hamburger with a small amount of tiny tiny vegetables. This wasn't by the way a cheap place to eat as the single dollar sign shows. If you want similar food hit the Panera west on Lake st. where you can be pretty assured you'll get quality food and servings.

A decent no frills sandwich shop in oak park. Place is pretty big and well maintained - definitely tons of seating. There's a lot of food items to choose from here and I decided on a pita that came with apples, chicken, greens, bacon and avocado. The menu didn't say anything about my food coming with a side dish but I was given homemade chips at no charge. The bacon in my sandwich was crisp with little fat and my chicken was warm. The sauce was this thick garlic dip that was deemed Russian dressing. It definitely wasn't like any Russian dressing I've had in the past.also wasn't too sure what the apples were doing in the wrap. Solid sandwich though!

I stopped in because of all the good reviews. I ordered a corn beef sandwich on rye with mustard. I was asked what veggie fillers I wanted. I said none. I simply wanted a good old corn beef sandwich. What I got were two thin pieces of corn beef in between two bulk side pieces of bread. I was so shocked I decided right then that I would never support this establishment again. Do they not know what constitutes a corn beef sandwich? Even if you go to any neighborhood diner they pile on the corn beef about 2 inches high. A corn beef sandwich does not include filler to achieve the 2 inch affect. I have never stepped foot in this establishment again. If they are serving these types of sandwiches, I don't get how they stay open. You're better off buying corn beef from your grocery store and making it yourself. The poorest sandwich making I've ever seen. Unless you want a salad included in your sandwich.

I met a friend at Erik's Deli to catch up for a bit. It is a very wide open space with plenty of seating. There was hardly anybody in there, so I was a bit nervous about eating at this place. It was alright, nothing too special. I got the chicken panini, which was supposed to have garlic mayo. When I see the words "garlic mayo" on a menu, I'm expecting a strong flavor, however, I did not get any garlic taste in this sandwich. The chicken was good, all white breast meat, the roasted peppers were good too, but the peppers were really the only flavor I tasted in the entire sandwich. The chips I got as a side were pretty decent, made fresh and came with a side of sour cream for dipping, which I appreciated. I would maybe give this place another chance since the food came out fairly quickly, but there needs to be more flavor in the sandwiches, or at least in the chicken panini.

Came here today and was pretty underwhelmed. Erik's doesn't have the best reputation in Oak Park, and I don't believe I have been here since it changed management years ago. Thought I'd give it another try. Got the club croissant with a side of fries. The croissant wasn't flakey or croissant like in anyway besides (kind of) the shape. The ingredients were sloppily put in, and not very fresh tasting. Pretty overpriced too. The fries were good. Not spectacular, but good. I will no longer wonder why there's never a crowd here.

Went to Erik's for the first time in several years - in fact, probably a couple of decades. So it's a few owners detached from the original and at least 2 remodels - one of which was fairly recent. Stopped in to pick up some lunch to go. Ended up doing the build your own sandwich - a roast beef. It was OK, but nothing really special. One of the things that might have added some zip to it would have been something other than mayo on the sandwich - maybe a horseradish sauce or funky mustard instead. Not sure if they had those or not, but if they do, it's not listed in that area of the menu. They don't really have a great process for to-go items - you get a number and wait at a table as if you were going to eat there. Seems to me that if they plan on doing any kind of to-go volume, they'd be best off coming up with a different wait strategy - just my 2 cents. While I was sitting there, I also felt as if the place lacked something. The remodel looks nice and all, but the restaurant lacked energy or atmosphere. All in all, it's OK, but not enough setting it apart to make the 4 of 5 star level.

I returned to Erik's a second time and got "The Pita." It was really, really unique and yummy. I liked the combination of chicken strips, bacon, and crisp apple slices. What I didn't like were pieces of chicken grissle that I had to pick out of my mouth (yuck!). Besides that, the service was the same as before. Unenthusiastic employees weren't very helpful in my menu selection. Furthermore, I now noticed that the menu is really annoying. It's on the wall by some tables instead of behind the counter. I had to step away from the counter to determine what I wanted (the wall menu has descriptions whereas the small printed one by the register was only names and prices). As a result, I'm keeping my rating the same. The Pita is really good though (just chew with care).

The soup here is amazing. Its a very Jason's Deli like atmosphere (WITHOUT THE FREE ICE CREAM). I was disappointed by the reuben. It was nothing to write home about, but other dishes are apparently well worth going for. I am going to give this place another shot in the future simply because of the soup. Its filled with families/strollers/loud children on the weekend so if that bothers you, forget about this place.

It's not often that I take the time to review a deli. Erik's is a different story. Every time I go in, I can see people who must eat at Erik's every day for lunch. They have a well-stocked salad bar, an option to make your own sandwich and then a serious selection of hot meals as well. They even have breakfast and quiche! I've taken a few out of town guests here and both times, they've loved the food. Even my vegetarian friend said he had "the best sandwich of his life". (He exaggerates a lot, but who am I to rain on his parade?)

I was the first girl my boyfriend brought *back* to Erik's, and for that reason I could never give it less than four stars. The menu is extremely diverse, with a huge number of options for both meaty- and vegetarians. It has a long kid's menu, too. And it's a Coke establishment! (with lemon slices for squirting in, and free refills!) I got the Mother Nature's treat on the onion roll, persuaded by the thought of avocado and sprouts... and muenster cheese can't hurt either. I loved that they asked me if I wanted fries, chips, or fruit-- unlike so many sandwich shops and diners where you have to ask special for the fry substitution or (gasp!) even pay more! That being said, I can see why some people complain about the flavor... To be fair, I ordered my sandwich without the honey mustard it's supposed to come with, but raw mushrooms, sprouts, and lettuce do not a sumptuous sandwich make, so the only real flavor came from the avocado and the cheese, especially since the onion roll was mostly just very bread-y. Still, I can imagine that some of the other menu options are much more satisfying in the flavor department. My boyfriend really enjoyed his grilled cheese with (grilled) mushrooms and (grilled) onions. And before he became a vegetarian, he always used to order The Pita sandwich. And for someone who spent his entire childhood and adolescence in Oak Park, "always" is a whole lot. I really like the remodel, I found it very inviting and really liked sitting by the front window. I hope my boyfriend decides to bring me back for a third time! Then I'll know it's for real, and that Erik's deserves another star.

Food is at least adequate, especially for families with picky children. And Erik's is a nice exception to the pretentious and/or inauthentic fare one normally finds around Oak Park Ave and Lake Street. Some points for nice job remodeling.

It was my first time visiting Erik's deli for lunch last week. While the ambiance and crowd was great (think a very classy and warm Chipotle vibe) the food was just OK. I ordered a chicken Cesar salad and cup of soup. The soup was not hot -just warm. Something was a bit off on the salad. -By the very tasteful and upper class decor of the restaurant, I just expected something a little fresher, tastier perhaps. It was bad -again -it was just OK. I saw a girl making her own salad from a buffet looking set up. Maybe that is the way to go next time. I'd give it another shot. They had a great selection of teas -so much so I bought a few bags to go. I think I would just try something else to confirm my feelings on the food.

The sandwiches were good & fresh. The two soups were both mushy; rice was over cooked in the chicken rice and swimming in a heavy cream base. The barley soup was in a heavy tomato base. Both soups tasted canned. I am always surprised when you don't see chopped liver on a "deli" menu. The atmosphere and location is nice. I doubt that I 'll be back anytime soon.

I used to go to Erik's once a week as a kid. My parents and I would go every Thursday night and we knew everyone by name and they knew us and our orders. But management changed, and the hours changed. And then the food started not being as good. And then they closed out of nowhere for remodeling, and then when they reopened, I felt like my Erik's was gone and in its place was this weird modern sushi-house looking place, or maybe as another Yelper said, a warm Chipotle. I still come here every so often for the burgers and fries, and for nostalgia--I've been on several dates there and I still sometimes think about the colorings other kids and I used to put on the walls.
People who give this "deli" more than one star must be deluded. Erik's sucked before their "renovation" and it still sucks. They may have updated the decor but unfortunately did not update the menu. It is extremely bland, there is no creativity or flavor on the sandwiches. The home made chips are tasteless. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone. I would rather save my money and eat at McDonald's than waste one more penny at this over-priced "eatery".

This cannot be the same place that other Yelpers give 4 stars. Really? My guess is that there has been a management or ownership change since those reviews were written as I rarely give only one star to a place and I cannot in good conscience, suggest to my friends that they go to Erik's Deli. It was lunchtime and we were starving. I had visions of a fresh, corned beef sandwich or even a good turkey sandwich served up in the nice environment that I read about on Yelp. I was looking forward to the "extensive salad bar" listed in the reviews or even the great chili. But reality hit us the second we opened the door. The place was empty with only a couple of tables occupied. Oh-oh. Not a good sign. Salad bar? Nope. No where in sight. There was, however, a refrigerated case with some sorry looking desserts wrapped in plastic wrap. The menu? Three huge signs hung on the wall some with food splatters on them. Ick again. "Eew, not good", I said to my friend. "Maybe we should go elsewhere". But we decided to stay as time was tight. We ordered what we thought they could execute. Club sandwich for me. Bowl of Chili and a Patty Melt for him. You pay at the counter ($24 including two Diet Cokes) and take a number and go and sit down. And there we found our next disappointment. The dining room had a smell to it. I think the carpeting was dirty or that there was a residual smell from when people used to smoke in the place but whatever it was, it didn't smell clean. And it didn't look clean. And the tray that they gave us our flat wear and soda on needed a tray mat. And I won't even go into details on the women's restroom where one sink was clogged and the stalls were not clean. This visit was heading south for sure! Our food was brought to the table. My club sandwich was tasteless and the turkey that was in it looked like it came from a deli package that had been in the refrig too long- sort of slimy. But the bacon was crisp and the tomatoes pretty good so I ended up taking the turkey off and making a BLT out of it. That actually tasted okay. My friend's patty melt was better although a bit bland. And that chili that got such rave reviews? Although covered in cheddar cheese and onions, it still tasted like cafeteria chili. Pretty disappointing all the way around. I hope that ours was a rare experience and that Erik's is on it's game usually. But I fear, in a time of cost reductions, that certain operating standards have been compromised. Erik's is tired and old and in need of a thorough updating and cleaning. How can the outside be so cute and the inside such a disaster? This I will never know. But I do know one thing . . . .there are plenty of great deli's in Chicago and the burbs. This just isn't one of them.

Looked interesting from the outside, but rather "franchisish" on the inside. Thought it might be more quaint. After all, that is the feel of the neighborhood. Ordered Mc Donaldish and the sandwiches were brought to us by number. Of course, a new honey. She ordered a tuna salad sandwich which was huge and very good. I ordered the Reuben which was OK. I couldn't decide if I should give them 2 or 3 stars. I went here today after not having been there for awhile (I'd only been twice before). Honestly I was expecting the worst based on recent reviews. When we walked in at 12.50 on a weekday and the place was pretty much empty, I really started to worry. The food and service were fine. My three cheese grilled cheese (hold the 'shrooms keep the onions) was tasty, though they were a little crazy with the garlic mayo. The homemade chips were yummy and they have lots of sandwich choices. However, my complaint is with the cleanliness and decor. The carpet is old and kind of grungy. Some of the tables and chairs are worn. The track lighting and ceiling fans are pretty dusty and gross. A few of the tables for some reason have umbrellas, so we sat under one in case of flying dust bunnies.

Erik's is a decent sandwich shop. But a deli it most certainly is not. Someone below commented to the effect that she ate here and went home and made dinner for herself and her husband. I can identify with that now. When you think reuben do you think 3 slices of mediocre corned beef on what could arguably be called rye? No? You prefer shaved corned beef piled high on dark rye? Go elsewhere. Really pathetic to pay 8 dollars for a sandwich and get whole meatless bites.

Erik's never disappoints. I live down the street and consider myself lucky to have Erik's in the neighborhood. Good solid sandwiches, wonderful soups, a salad bar and more. Free wifi is a bonus. I love the Cox, Ruben, club and just about everything else. If you're looking for a cute, trendy or unique place, this isn't it. If you're looking for solid food at a good price, it is.

Basic food but it's fresh, fast, and good. I revisited Erik's after years of not stepping in there. I actually thought they had closed shop but was happy to see them at the same spot. They redesigned the whole place and I like it. It's spacious and since you are able to seat yourself with your order number, it's pretty quick to get service. It was a Sunday; the boyfriend and myself wanted to beat the morning church goer groups and Eric's was our pick. I had the spinach and mushroom omelette with hashbrown sides with rye bread on the side.. awesome! Even the jelly was awesome! The boy had a beefy burger which was giant and he was equally pleased. I like that we didn't have to wait long at all for our food and weren't bothered by loudness or busy bodies. We enjoyed a tasty Sunday brunch.

Went to Erik's all the time in high school. The place has changed a lot since the mid-90s, but I was glad to revisit when I moved to the OP last summer. It's a great go-to spot-- usual fare on the menu, and people I'm with can always find something to eat. I like the food ok, and though it may be nothing special, it's filling and good enough. Tonight I had the Italiano panini, and my friends got burritos. Food was fast and very fresh, and we were all satisfied. I'm glad Erik's is still in the neighborhood.

I love the new Erik's! I had been here once or twice before it was remodeled and only ever took food to go. The place was awful! Now it is beautiful and really gives a face-lift to that part of Oak Park Ave. My favorite item is the Prime Rib Croissant sandwich. The garlic mayo is to die for and I don't usually like mayo! Their chips are really tasty too, although I usually choose fruit to make it a bit healthier for myself. It is always bustling in there and seems very friendly and welcoming!

Disclaimer, a year or two ago this place would have gotten 4. Seriously, what has happened to the food and the attitude of this place!? The cashier's lately have been lazy, disrespectful teens that are more interested in their phones than the customer. The food has become rubbery and the place itself has begun to take on the smell of it's own bathroom unless you sit right by the door. Even then you have to deal with people coming in and out...or not.

This was my first visit to Erik's and I was very happy with it. The Pita was a delicious combination of chicken, bacon, avocado mixed in Russian dressing. Messy but good. We were initially drawn to Erik's this last weekend because of its remodel. It looks a lot better from the street these days, and I actually thought it was a new restaurant until I did some Yelp research. The curb appeal is there now with a modern chrome/retro feel to the place. We ordered for pick up over the phone. The person that answered was a little pushy, but was not exactly rude. We both went for the Chicken Salad Sandwich (a staple in my life) and got a few sides. The chicken salad ended up being a little too onion-y for me so that was a bit disappointing. It was also advertised as 'Dill' chicken salad...and I didn't see a single spec of dill in it. We also got the homemade chips (bland), the sweet potato fries (decent), the sour cream macaroni salad (boring) and the coleslaw. The Coleslaw was quite tasty....I wouldn't say it was the "BEST EVER" but my bf seemed to think it was. He said they had some beef wraps that looked really good while he was in line picking up our food....so we may stop here again I just won't order the chicken salad.

My husband and I saw this place as we walked around Oak Park looking for a simple dinner place. We were on the hunt for sandwiches and found Erik's. We were excited by the decor and thought we would be in for a treat. It was just...okay. Maybe even slightly disappointing. My hubby had a tuna melt, which was made on two slices of very thin white bread. The flavor was just okay (this is a theme at this deli). I had a fish sandwich and although the filet was a good size, it had a smattering of tarter sauce, no cheese. If it hadn't had the tomato and lettuce on it it would have just been like a McDonald's fish sandwich. I really wanted to love this place but for almost $10 a sandwich I expect to at least be satisfied. We went back home and had to make dinner anyway. Although the fries and chips were good, the sandwiches need to be able to stand alone without these sides.

Erik's Deli is the perfect place to stop for a quick meal after exiting the subway line on your way to the Frank Lloyd Wright structures in Oak Park! I cannot speak about before the remodel, but the place looked super which is why we picked it for lunch. There was large menu on the wall with a good selection of items - making the choice difficult at times as everything looked so good! I have read good things about their fries, but after my breakfast, I decided I needed to pass... they did look good though. There were several families with very young kids, so I'd say this is family friendly. The prices were in line with what I expected for a deli of this caliber. The staff was helpful and friendly. Salad bar lovers need apply! Totally sneeze-proof, always fresh, made to order and lots of options. The salads are sold by the pound and very affordable (mine usually run about $4.50 and are enough for an entire meal.) The Thousand Island dressing is the best I've ever tasted. Be sure to ask for the complimentary breadstick when getting take out. The other menu items worth noting are the Pita Chips appetizer and the Grilled Three Cheese (I get easy onions.) The pita chips are homemade and chewy.. The grilled cheese is a generous portion with a choice of fresh fruit or fries on the side.

This place is probably the perfect sandwich shop. Their menu is full of classics and specialty items. They have been around since before I was born. And they have the best handcut fries and chips anywhere. The Erik burger is one menu item I will remember for the rest of my life. It is always tasty and made to perfection, with crispy fried onions and pickles. I also love the French Chicken - a delicious chicken salad sandwich on a croissant roll. Some may complain that the prices are high, but honestly, you get what you pay for. If your looking for cheap crap go to burger king or something and eat the cheap crap. This is a place for people who like the good stuff. Also, they recently remodeled and the place looks amazing! They also brought back the salad bar(finally). Its the same Eriks as before, now just with a much needed update.

I have gone here for years and usually get the same thing a roast beef on croissant with swiss and bacon. I love it but after the remodel now the roast beef is not the same real kind they used to have but more of a fake almost loaf type. I still love the chips and my wife and a co-worker both loved theirs but I was really disapointed. The place does look a lot better then it did but they need to keep the quality up if they want business to pick up.

I thought this place was pretty good. A friend and I needed a quick bite to eat, and he mentioned this place. I'm always up for trying a new place and checking it out. There is a lot to choose from, anywhere from appetizers to hot and cold sandwiches to things like quiche and burritos, wraps, paninis and salads. I decided to try the veggie panini, it had roasted red & green peppers, avocados, zucchini, lettuce, tomato, mushrooms, mozzarella & this garlic mayo sauce on it. Also came with fries or fruit. I decided to go all the way on this one and get the fries which were pretty good, they were seasoned well. I would definitly come back to this place again. Great place to go for a quick bite to eat.

So happy that Erik's went through a total remodel. I stopped going there years ago because it had a weird smell - like Lysol - that didn't make it a pleasant place in which to eat. Well, the smell is gone, but the menu remains the same! I had my favorite - turkey Louise - and it was so nice to hear the cashier ask, "fries, fruit or chips?" The breakfast menu looks the same too, so I'll be back for that. Unfortunately, the umbrella tables are gone - but the place has a very nice modern look. And - the rest room doors do not open up into the dining area. The feng shui is right on target.

So this is a quick post-remodel review of Erik's as I hadn't been then since the redo. I'm going to say I like it. Because it's a thousand times better than the old Erik's Deli however that said, I'm not a fan of it. It lacks personality and warmth. It feels more like an East German prison than a deli. From the wrought iron fencing to the cold steel letters behind the counter I felt more like a number than a customer. Don't get me wrong - the food is still fantastic, the service too. But for the caliber of class this place is, the interior leaves a lot to be desired. I'm not going to change my rating but I hope they find another ten grand laying around for another remodeling soon.

I go here every couple weeks because it's so convenient and they don't mind if I sit and do some work; otherwise, I probably wouldn't go. Unless you have a major deli sandwich craving, it's not worth a special trip.

My nose was dripping. Non-stop. I had handfuls of napkins and Kleenex. Yes, I had a sinus infection. But it didn't stop me from riding the bus to the Green Line, boarding, and traveling into Oak Park for the singular purpose of eating at Erik's. My boyfriend had raved about the joint, as he'd been there a few times because we have friends that live out in the area (nice folks, really). So I was all game for a Sunday lunch, despite my condition. He'd expressed great joy over their croissant sandwiches, and I was truly intrigued. We arrived prior to the rolling down of the tarp over the breakfast menu, but that was okay, the sandwiches were what we'd come to conquer. I ordered a turkey and cheese on croissant (I can't remember the specifics, this was last month!). I got the fries with it and until it arrived, we noshed on the homemade potato chips that were absolutely divine. The food didn't take long to arrive, and let me tell you, it was probably one of THE best sandwiches I've ever had. It was fresh, soft, full of flavor and I managed to be full enough from half of the sandwich (these are BIG croissants!) and some fries, that I took my sammich home. It made for a stellar late afternoon snack (it kept very well in the fridge). I think next time I'll branch out for something else, at least a dessert from their vast menu. But perchance I'll stick to the sandwich I got ... because you can't find a croissant sandwich like that where I'm from. And even with goo dripping from your nose, it's able to be enjoyed!

You order at the counter, pay, and get sent to find a table balancing your drinks and one of those numbers-on-a-stick on your tray. I think their burger is quite good, and also like their quiche. I am actually giving this restaurant 0 stars so I guess I'm in a different place than the other Yelpers. My husband and I found ourselves in Oak Park with about an 1 1/2 to kill. Right off the bat, we eye Erik's ... looks full and cute. We wandered around but since it was all about breakfast or lunch, we went in. The place was about 1/3 empty so we walked up to place our order. I decided on the "Sunday Special" 1/2 a Turkey Louise (turkey & cran) and cup of soup (beef barley) and my husband wanted an omelet. I turned to a cashier and asked, " Should I place my order with you?" She answered with all the personality and enthusiasm of a napkin, "If you want". Gee so sorry to bother you with our order. She then asked my husband if he wanted fruit or hash browns and of course he took the spuds. We sat and within minutes our food was out! The hash browns were a bowl of fried potato chunks. Not like any hash browns I've ever seen. My beef barley soup was bright red and tasteless, and my poor pathetic sandwich was a soggy mess. Served Club style, Erik's chose to put all the turkey on one side completely separate from the cranberry sauce because of that stupid piece of soggy bread! That's why they TOAST bread when they make club sandwiches especially with cran sauce. It was absolutely the worst sandwich I have ever had and I've eaten sandwiches at the Hans Brinker Youth Hostel in Amsterdam!!!!! Even my crackers were a pre-crushed mess. The only thing that saved the day was the latte and cookie at Caribou across the street because with an hour still to kill I was not about to spend any more time there. Really BAD experience.

The remodel of the place made a huge difference. I wasn't a big fan of Erik's Deli until my friend brought me to it again when it was remodeled, and now I am in love with it. Quick Service friendly staff, and very affordable. Food is very tasty, there is a wide choice range from chicken wings, to hot sandwhiches, cold sandwhiches, pasta, and dessert! If you go I highly reconmend the chicken tenders and fries, and the blt wraps. Food is fresh and comes out super hot! Will I go back in again? Of course!

to start, they make homemade chips which are awesome. you can either get them with cheese smothering them or with sour cream and chives. i recommend the cheese. i also tried the mother nature's treat sandwich which probably wasn't the best choice because the menu is full of meat-y sandwiches. my sandwich was pretty bland. something that should be noted is that the atmosphere is kinda strange... there's a fake italian village scene on one wall and outdoor patio umbrellas over a few of the tables inside. if you're in oak park though, it's worth a visit for the chips.

This was the first place we ate at it Oak Park. When we went inside it was empty, like really empty, so we were a little scared. Especially after seeing so many people milling about the area. It turns out we were just a little earlier then most, because by the time we left it had started to fill up. They have a wide variety and a ton of choices and really good sized portions. I have tried a variety of entries at Erik's. I have liked everything I have tried here, but the only item that I absolutely love eating is there homemade potato chips. They are very tasty. Erik's also has an ice cream section which I have tried once. It was good ice cream, but it doesn't compare to the other ice cream shops in the neighborhood. Overall if you are looking for a variety of sandwiches or food items I would definitely go here. I would have to say though that the prices are a little bit much for the entries, due to it's basically a sit-in deli type of establishment.

During my student teaching I would come here almost every Tuesday for lunch. The atmosphere is nice and casual, the people at the counter were always friendly, and the food was delicious. When you first walk in you are greeted by the salad bar which boasts of being the largest salad bar in Oak Park. I don't know if it's true, but they do have a great selection of items. Continuing towards the counter to place your order you then have to stare down the large chalk boards and banners of menu items and that's where the trouble begins. So many things to choose from. The wraps are pretty good, from what I've seen the salads are good, the BF enjoyed his hamburger, but my all time favorite is The Crane. Just trust me, it's delicious. My only complaint is that sometimes it was too greasy, but when you're just in that certain mood that makes it even better. Another perk of Eric's is the free homemade potato chips. Make sure to stop by the bowl on the way to your seat and get some. The french fries were usually my biggest problem. They were wonderful homemade shoe string fries, but usually too greasy and this time not in the good way. When they did come out done well they were perfect, but not often enough so I usually just went with the fresh fruit for my side. While I love the food at Eric's the price sometimes seems just a little absurd considering the type of food and how much you get so I reserve it for days that I'm really craving this kind of food, which isn't that often sadly. Of course compared to the surrounding restaurants it's prices are very reasonable. If you're in the neighborhood though give it a try. You'll really enjoy it.

So bad, there just arent enough words for it. Erik's needs to cut down the menu and fire whomever is making the food right now if they want to stay in business. We ordered an appetizer of the steak nachos and what we got was totally inedible. The meat tasted freezer-burned, the beans were burned and the chips stale. I think we ate about 1% of this before shoving it aside. My husband got a burger and I got a panini and didn't fare any better. Stale, congealed, over-cooked, all of these apply. I should have just had the ice cream and stayed away from anything that had to be prepared.

Erik's has been re-done with a new modern decor. It looks really nice and has a bit more seating. The menu does not appear to have had a makeover, though it did seem a bit smaller. It was unclear if they are still open for brunch, that was my favorite time to go. The salad bar is no longer self serve, but behind the counter. Food was good though a bit steep for a sandwich lunch.

I grew up eating here and have always loved Erik's. I was very disgusted when I ate there this past weekend. First of all, it was dead for a Saturday night. While we were waiting for our food, a mouse ran by our table!!! I wanted to leave, but my sister did not want to make a scene. We got our food and it was terrible. I had the tuna melt, which used to be my favorite tuna melt growing up, and it was bland and tasteless and served without a pickle. I can only assume management has changed. It was not the same atmosphere I have been used too. We walked in and it was empty, there used to be a line. The man who was sweeping the floor took our order, in the past they had servers who would do that and bus boys who cleaned. I am very disappointed and can Erik's will be a place in the past as I will never eat here again!

So this is right in our neighborhood and in over a year I've never been... Until last weekend. We gave it a shot, why not? The sandwiches were really tasty, it was shockingly spacious inside and child-friendly. They had several families there with the little ones and plenty of menu options to keep them happy. I give them credit, the prices are way way affordable and like I said, It's really yummy! It's not fancy so I wouldn't plan on it being much more than a very tasty lunch or dinner... They do breakfast but I don't know much about that, it was a smaller menu. Anyway, you'll enjoy their menu items - fresh, delicious and affordable.

I was in oak park for an appointment and i was about an hour early so I decided to get dinner. It was reminiscent of a cafeteria in the ordering/menu on the wall but it was just your basic restaurant with at the front order and sit down with a number to wait for your food. I ordered a very basic burger and fries. The fries tasted made-in-house and were very good. The burger was just ok. There was a loud group of families near me all eating together. I was slightly annoyed but it was no fault of Erik's. Then, one of the kid yells out "CHOCOLATE CHIP PANCAKE!" to the server setting down their meals and I quickly looked over to the menu on the wall and realize this kid is a freaking genius. On the kid's menu is a CHOCOLATE CHIP PANCAKE and this kid had one for dinner. He's the Real MVP. I could not have been more jealous of anyone at any time. I may be back next time I'm in oak park for the chocolate chip pancake.

I've been wanting to try this place out for awhile since I moved into the area. My friends went there a week before I did and thought it was good - they had lots of options. My husband and I came here on a Friday evening for dinner. It wasn't too busy..we strolled in after 630pm, but it started getting busy around 730pm. I guess that is dinner time for most people in this area. They do have lots of options on their menu. I feel they are trying to be like Jason's Deli.. but Jason's Deli is better than this place. I ordered the BBQ Chicken panini along with a bowl of clam chowder soup. My husband ordered their grilled steak burrito. Bad idea to order burrito at a deli place. My BBQ chicken panini was really good. I enjoyed it. It came with fries, and both my husband and I really enjoyed the fries. My husband's burrito was not good..you can tell by looking at it too. The shell was very thick..and it just didn't taste like a good burrito. Go figure. The bowl of clam chowder soup was thick...doesnt seem homemade to me, but not going to complain. Lots of seats..pretty cool place, decent food. An average deli place.

Pretty disappointing lunch. First of all, the menu is either on the wall where it is tucked my several tables so awkward or in small print by the cash register where it is hard to read. Getting through that we ordered a veggie panini, veggie burrito and blt wrap. $30 for the three including drinks which is not cheap. We then waited what seemed like a long, long time for the sandwiches. I had the burrito which was only ok-a bit soggy and it tasted more like a veggie wrap than burrito. I could not detect any real Mexican flavor and it was somewhat tasteless. The blt wrap was a bit better with lots of bacon but didn't taste great. Finally the veggie panini was also fine but not special. They claim the homemade chips are famous and that may be the case but not for either taste or crispness. The fries tasted good but we're a bit limp and soggy. I think we will head elsewhere on our next Oak Park visit.

I gave this deli the benefit of the doubt and returned today. I met up with a friend who had the day off since she works for the State of IL. This time I ordered the Chicken Panino sandwich with a choice of fries, fruit or chips. I opted for the fruit. The chicken sandwich was stuffed with red peppers and melted mozzarella cheese. It was overloaded with red peppers and not a lot of chicken breast. Although it was a big sandwich it was bland. Please season the chicken breast with something. My rating for the sandwich, 3-stars. The fruit was out of season and wasn't ripe enough, so I barely ate the mixed fruit. It came in a very tiny container. Fruit rating, 2 stars. Yes, it is "Panino" and not "Panini." Panino means ONE sandwich and is the singular version whereas Panini is the plural (more than one sandwich). This deli used to be excellent and serve high quality food. Maybe there is a new owner, so the quality here is 3-stars. I also had a small cup of wild rice chicken soup. It wasn't super salty but had a well-balanced flavor. There were 5 or 6 pieces of real chicken breast, but no carrots or celery and barely any rice. The soup, 2-stars. The restaurant was freezing cold (maybe they forgot to pay the heating bill) and I couldn't wait to leave. Also, there were some 4 and 5 year-old kids in the restaurant (school holiday) who were somewhat behaved until the last 15-minutes that we were there. They started to get a bit bored, cranky and started screaming at some point. I like kids a lot and don't mind kids in a restaurant, but once they start to misbehave, it is time for the parents to pull that child away in a private corner and have a talk with that child (or leave the restaurant all together). At that point, I wanted to get the "F" out of there! I gave this place a second chance, but there will be no third chance or any other time for that matter. My total came to $11 and change. Parking is not easy in this area either. Make sure you have a roll of quarters with you, because two quarters will only give you 30-minutes. Oak Park is behind the times when it comes to parking. Get rid of those freakin' meters and have a "Pay to Park" box instead.

I grew up in Oak Park so I've been to Erik's dozens of times growing up...after sports games, plays, and any other community event. This place was always packed after those types of events and during weekend brunch. The food was never 5-star quality but it was always good comfort food and they had amazing homemade chips. But the decor definitely needed an update back in the 90's - not that it really mattered. Business was great. I moved back to Oak Park a few years ago and Erik's is still here. It's since changed owners. The decor has been updated to a more contemporary decor but it doesn't work. The walls are way too dark and it looks a little dingy because of it. The menu is pretty much the same but the homemade chips are a little soggier in general and not nearly as good as before. For better or worse, the menu items taste the same and the few additions they have made to it aren't doing anything to help. Unlike in the past, this is not my go-to place for good comfort food nor is it the community's. I haven't seen more than 10 people here at any given time the few times I have grabbed a bite here recently.

I love salads and the French Chicken (not on the new menu but they will make it for you) is my favorite sandwich. I am a huge fan of fries but I get their homemade chips which are delicious!! This is a Panera wannabe. Side of fruit wasn't fresh. Tasted frozen. Turkey sandwich made with cheap store type bread. Beef barley soup made with small grains of hamburger with a small amount of tiny tiny vegetables. This wasn't by the way a cheap place to eat as the single dollar sign shows. If you want similar food hit the Panera west on Lake st. where you can be pretty assured you'll get quality food and servings.

A decent no frills sandwich shop in oak park. Place is pretty big and well maintained - definitely tons of seating. There's a lot of food items to choose from here and I decided on a pita that came with apples, chicken, greens, bacon and avocado. The menu didn't say anything about my food coming with a side dish but I was given homemade chips at no charge. The bacon in my sandwich was crisp with little fat and my chicken was warm. The sauce was this thick garlic dip that was deemed Russian dressing. It definitely wasn't like any Russian dressing I've had in the past.also wasn't too sure what the apples were doing in the wrap. Solid sandwich though!

I stopped in because of all the good reviews. I ordered a corn beef sandwich on rye with mustard. I was asked what veggie fillers I wanted. I said none. I simply wanted a good old corn beef sandwich. What I got were two thin pieces of corn beef in between two bulk side pieces of bread. I was so shocked I decided right then that I would never support this establishment again. Do they not know what constitutes a corn beef sandwich? Even if you go to any neighborhood diner they pile on the corn beef about 2 inches high. A corn beef sandwich does not include filler to achieve the 2 inch affect. I have never stepped foot in this establishment again. If they are serving these types of sandwiches, I don't get how they stay open. You're better off buying corn beef from your grocery store and making it yourself. The poorest sandwich making I've ever seen. Unless you want a salad included in your sandwich.

I met a friend at Erik's Deli to catch up for a bit. It is a very wide open space with plenty of seating. There was hardly anybody in there, so I was a bit nervous about eating at this place. It was alright, nothing too special. I got the chicken panini, which was supposed to have garlic mayo. When I see the words "garlic mayo" on a menu, I'm expecting a strong flavor, however, I did not get any garlic taste in this sandwich. The chicken was good, all white breast meat, the roasted peppers were good too, but the peppers were really the only flavor I tasted in the entire sandwich. The chips I got as a side were pretty decent, made fresh and came with a side of sour cream for dipping, which I appreciated. I would maybe give this place another chance since the food came out fairly quickly, but there needs to be more flavor in the sandwiches, or at least in the chicken panini.

Came here today and was pretty underwhelmed. Erik's doesn't have the best reputation in Oak Park, and I don't believe I have been here since it changed management years ago. Thought I'd give it another try. Got the club croissant with a side of fries. The croissant wasn't flakey or croissant like in anyway besides (kind of) the shape. The ingredients were sloppily put in, and not very fresh tasting. Pretty overpriced too. The fries were good. Not spectacular, but good. I will no longer wonder why there's never a crowd here.

Went to Erik's for the first time in several years - in fact, probably a couple of decades. So it's a few owners detached from the original and at least 2 remodels - one of which was fairly recent. Stopped in to pick up some lunch to go. Ended up doing the build your own sandwich - a roast beef. It was OK, but nothing really special. One of the things that might have added some zip to it would have been something other than mayo on the sandwich - maybe a horseradish sauce or funky mustard instead. Not sure if they had those or not, but if they do, it's not listed in that area of the menu. They don't really have a great process for to-go items - you get a number and wait at a table as if you were going to eat there. Seems to me that if they plan on doing any kind of to-go volume, they'd be best off coming up with a different wait strategy - just my 2 cents. While I was sitting there, I also felt as if the place lacked something. The remodel looks nice and all, but the restaurant lacked energy or atmosphere. All in all, it's OK, but not enough setting it apart to make the 4 of 5 star level.

I returned to Erik's a second time and got "The Pita." It was really, really unique and yummy. I liked the combination of chicken strips, bacon, and crisp apple slices. What I didn't like were pieces of chicken grissle that I had to pick out of my mouth (yuck!). Besides that, the service was the same as before. Unenthusiastic employees weren't very helpful in my menu selection. Furthermore, I now noticed that the menu is really annoying. It's on the wall by some tables instead of behind the counter. I had to step away from the counter to determine what I wanted (the wall menu has descriptions whereas the small printed one by the register was only names and prices). As a result, I'm keeping my rating the same. The Pita is really good though (just chew with care).

The soup here is amazing. Its a very Jason's Deli like atmosphere (WITHOUT THE FREE ICE CREAM). I was disappointed by the reuben. It was nothing to write home about, but other dishes are apparently well worth going for. I am going to give this place another shot in the future simply because of the soup. Its filled with families/strollers/loud children on the weekend so if that bothers you, forget about this place.

It's not often that I take the time to review a deli. Erik's is a different story. Every time I go in, I can see people who must eat at Erik's every day for lunch. They have a well-stocked salad bar, an option to make your own sandwich and then a serious selection of hot meals as well. They even have breakfast and quiche! I've taken a few out of town guests here and both times, they've loved the food. Even my vegetarian friend said he had "the best sandwich of his life". (He exaggerates a lot, but who am I to rain on his parade?)

I was the first girl my boyfriend brought *back* to Erik's, and for that reason I could never give it less than four stars. The menu is extremely diverse, with a huge number of options for both meaty- and vegetarians. It has a long kid's menu, too. And it's a Coke establishment! (with lemon slices for squirting in, and free refills!) I got the Mother Nature's treat on the onion roll, persuaded by the thought of avocado and sprouts... and muenster cheese can't hurt either. I loved that they asked me if I wanted fries, chips, or fruit-- unlike so many sandwich shops and diners where you have to ask special for the fry substitution or (gasp!) even pay more! That being said, I can see why some people complain about the flavor... To be fair, I ordered my sandwich without the honey mustard it's supposed to come with, but raw mushrooms, sprouts, and lettuce do not a sumptuous sandwich make, so the only real flavor came from the avocado and the cheese, especially since the onion roll was mostly just very bread-y. Still, I can imagine that some of the other menu options are much more satisfying in the flavor department. My boyfriend really enjoyed his grilled cheese with (grilled) mushrooms and (grilled) onions. And before he became a vegetarian, he always used to order The Pita sandwich. And for someone who spent his entire childhood and adolescence in Oak Park, "always" is a whole lot. I really like the remodel, I found it very inviting and really liked sitting by the front window. I hope my boyfriend decides to bring me back for a third time! Then I'll know it's for real, and that Erik's deserves another star.

Not really a deli, and not especially noteworthy. Absolutely nothing interesting about this place, and it borders on a bit sad. But there are some plusses. Food is at least adequate, especially for families with picky children. And Erik's is a nice exception to the pretentious and/or inauthentic fare one normally finds around Oak Park Ave and Lake Street. Some points for nice job remodeling.

It was my first time visiting Erik's deli for lunch last week. While the ambiance and crowd was great (think a very classy and warm Chipotle vibe) the food was just OK. I ordered a chicken Cesar salad and cup of soup. The soup was not hot -just warm. Something was a bit off on the salad. -By the very tasteful and upper class decor of the restaurant, I just expected something a little fresher, tastier perhaps. It was bad -again -it was just OK. I saw a girl making her own salad from a buffet looking set up. Maybe that is the way to go next time. I'd give it another shot. They had a great selection of teas -so much so I bought a few bags to go. I think I would just try something else to confirm my feelings on the food.

The sandwiches were good & fresh. The two soups were both mushy; rice was over cooked in the chicken rice and swimming in a heavy cream base. The barley soup was in a heavy tomato base. Both soups tasted canned. I am always surprised when you don't see chopped liver on a "deli" menu. The atmosphere and location is nice. I doubt that I 'll be back anytime soon.

We came here today for lunch with the family and enjoyed the experience. I liked the club sandwich, and the fresh cut fries and onion rings were both winners. I used to go to Erik's once a week as a kid. My parents and I would go every Thursday night and we knew everyone by name and they knew us and our orders. But management changed, and the hours changed. And then the food started not being as good. And then they closed out of nowhere for remodeling, and then when they reopened, I felt like my Erik's was gone and in its place was this weird modern sushi-house looking place, or maybe as another Yelper said, a warm Chipotle. I still come here every so often for the burgers and fries, and for nostalgia--I've been on several dates there and I still sometimes think about the colorings other kids and I used to put on the walls.

I've been here many times (several times a month, usually) for years -- both before and after the remodel. It's a great spot for families, friends' get together, book club, etc. The food here is solid -- not spectacularly amazing, but tasty and filling for sure. I love the Crane sandwich (turkey, muenster, tomatoes, sautéed mushrooms, and garlic mayo), which I always get on an onion roll instead of rye with the mayo on the side. All of their side dishes are yummy! I usually get chips or fries but add in the fruit cup for an additional $1. Ooooh, and I love their chicken salad. :) The cream of chicken soup with rice is delish, and on the weekends they have breakfast/brunch until 2 p.m. The owner here is friendly and very hands on. I find it a teensy bit odd that if he isn't taking orders himself, he's *always* hanging out behind the cashier. If I worked there I'd feel like he was micromanaging a bit, but on the other hand it's nice to see that he's involved and cares. FYI, this place is not a deli in the sense of a Jewish deli w/pastrami sandwiches piled high. It's more of a casual cafe.

People who give this "deli" more than one star must be deluded. Erik's sucked before their "renovation" and it still sucks. They may have updated the decor but unfortunately did not update the menu. It is extremely bland, there is no creativity or flavor on the sandwiches. The home made chips are tasteless. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone. I would rather save my money and eat at McDonald's than waste one more penny at this over-priced "eatery".

This cannot be the same place that other Yelpers give 4 stars. Really? My guess is that there has been a management or ownership change since those reviews were written as I rarely give only one star to a place and I cannot in good conscience, suggest to my friends that they go to Erik's Deli. It was lunchtime and we were starving. I had visions of a fresh, corned beef sandwich or even a good turkey sandwich served up in the nice environment that I read about on Yelp. I was looking forward to the "extensive salad bar" listed in the reviews or even the great chili. But reality hit us the second we opened the door. The place was empty with only a couple of tables occupied. Oh-oh. Not a good sign. Salad bar? Nope. No where in sight. There was, however, a refrigerated case with some sorry looking desserts wrapped in plastic wrap. The menu? Three huge signs hung on the wall some with food splatters on them. Ick again. "Eew, not good", I said to my friend. "Maybe we should go elsewhere". But we decided to stay as time was tight. We ordered what we thought they could execute. Club sandwich for me. Bowl of Chili and a Patty Melt for him. You pay at the counter ($24 including two Diet Cokes) and take a number and go and sit down. And there we found our next disappointment. The dining room had a smell to it. I think the carpeting was dirty or that there was a residual smell from when people used to smoke in the place but whatever it was, it didn't smell clean. And it didn't look clean. And the tray that they gave us our flat wear and soda on needed a tray mat. And I won't even go into details on the women's restroom where one sink was clogged and the stalls were not clean. This visit was heading south for sure! Our food was brought to the table. My club sandwich was tasteless and the turkey that was in it looked like it came from a deli package that had been in the refrig too long- sort of slimy. But the bacon was crisp and the tomatoes pretty good so I ended up taking the turkey off and making a BLT out of it. That actually tasted okay. My friend's patty melt was better although a bit bland. And that chili that got such rave reviews? Although covered in cheddar cheese and onions, it still tasted like cafeteria chili. Pretty disappointing all the way around. I hope that ours was a rare experience and that Erik's is on it's game usually. But I fear, in a time of cost reductions, that certain operating standards have been compromised. Erik's is tired and old and in need of a thorough updating and cleaning. How can the outside be so cute and the inside such a disaster? This I will never know. But I do know one thing . . . .there are plenty of great deli's in Chicago and the burbs. This just isn't one of them.

I couldn't decide if I should give them 2 or 3 stars. I went here today after not having been there for awhile (I'd only been twice before). Honestly I was expecting the worst based on recent reviews. When we walked in at 12.50 on a weekday and the place was pretty much empty, I really started to worry. The food and service were fine. My three cheese grilled cheese (hold the 'shrooms keep the onions) was tasty, though they were a little crazy with the garlic mayo. The homemade chips were yummy and they have lots of sandwich choices. However, my complaint is with the cleanliness and decor. The carpet is old and kind of grungy. Some of the tables and chairs are worn. The track lighting and ceiling fans are pretty dusty and gross. A few of the tables for some reason have umbrellas, so we sat under one in case of flying dust bunnies.

Erik's is a decent sandwich shop. But a deli it most certainly is not. Someone below commented to the effect that she ate here and went home and made dinner for herself and her husband. I can identify with that now. When you think reuben do you think 3 slices of mediocre corned beef on what could arguably be called rye? No? You prefer shaved corned beef piled high on dark rye? Go elsewhere. Really pathetic to pay 8 dollars for a sandwich and get whole meatless bites.

Erik's never disappoints. I live down the street and consider myself lucky to have Erik's in the neighborhood. Good solid sandwiches, wonderful soups, a salad bar and more. Free wifi is a bonus. I love the Cox, Ruben, club and just about everything else. If you're looking for a cute, trendy or unique place, this isn't it. If you're looking for solid food at a good price, it is.

Basic food but it's fresh, fast, and good. I revisited Erik's after years of not stepping in there. I actually thought they had closed shop but was happy to see them at the same spot. They redesigned the whole place and I like it. It's spacious and since you are able to seat yourself with your order number, it's pretty quick to get service. It was a Sunday; the boyfriend and myself wanted to beat the morning church goer groups and Eric's was our pick. I had the spinach and mushroom omelette with hashbrown sides with rye bread on the side.. awesome! Even the jelly was awesome! The boy had a beefy burger which was giant and he was equally pleased. I like that we didn't have to wait long at all for our food and weren't bothered by loudness or busy bodies. We enjoyed a tasty Sunday brunch.

Went to Erik's all the time in high school. The place has changed a lot since the mid-90s, but I was glad to revisit when I moved to the OP last summer. It's a great go-to spot-- usual fare on the menu, and people I'm with can always find something to eat. I like the food ok, and though it may be nothing special, it's filling and good enough. Tonight I had the Italiano panini, and my friends got burritos. Food was fast and very fresh, and we were all satisfied. I'm glad Erik's is still in the neighborhood.

I love the new Erik's! I had been here once or twice before it was remodeled and only ever took food to go. The place was awful! Now it is beautiful and really gives a face-lift to that part of Oak Park Ave. My favorite item is the Prime Rib Croissant sandwich. The garlic mayo is to die for and I don't usually like mayo! Their chips are really tasty too, although I usually choose fruit to make it a bit healthier for myself. It is always bustling in there and seems very friendly and welcoming!

Disclaimer, a year or two ago this place would have gotten 4. Seriously, what has happened to the food and the attitude of this place!? The cashier's lately have been lazy, disrespectful teens that are more interested in their phones than the customer. The food has become rubbery and the place itself has begun to take on the smell of it's own bathroom unless you sit right by the door. Even then you have to deal with people coming in and out...or not.

This was my first visit to Erik's and I was very happy with it. The Pita was a delicious combination of chicken, bacon, avocado mixed in Russian dressing. Messy but good. I went on a Friday at lunch and the place was quite full. There were a lot of mothers with their young children. A bit pricey but I will go back.

We were initially drawn to Erik's this last weekend because of its remodel. It looks a lot better from the street these days, and I actually thought it was a new restaurant until I did some Yelp research. The curb appeal is there now with a modern chrome/retro feel to the place. We ordered for pick up over the phone. The person that answered was a little pushy, but was not exactly rude. We both went for the Chicken Salad Sandwich (a staple in my life) and got a few sides. The chicken salad ended up being a little too onion-y for me so that was a bit disappointing. It was also advertised as 'Dill' chicken salad...and I didn't see a single spec of dill in it. We also got the homemade chips (bland), the sweet potato fries (decent), the sour cream macaroni salad (boring) and the coleslaw. The Coleslaw was quite tasty....I wouldn't say it was the "BEST EVER" but my bf seemed to think it was. He said they had some beef wraps that looked really good while he was in line picking up our food....so we may stop here again I just won't order the chicken salad.

My husband and I saw this place as we walked around Oak Park looking for a simple dinner place. We were on the hunt for sandwiches and found Erik's. We were excited by the decor and thought we would be in for a treat. It was just...okay. Maybe even slightly disappointing. My hubby had a tuna melt, which was made on two slices of very thin white bread. The flavor was just okay (this is a theme at this deli). I had a fish sandwich and although the filet was a good size, it had a smattering of tarter sauce, no cheese. If it hadn't had the tomato and lettuce on it it would have just been like a McDonald's fish sandwich. I really wanted to love this place but for almost $10 a sandwich I expect to at least be satisfied. We went back home and had to make dinner anyway. Although the fries and chips were good, the sandwiches need to be able to stand alone without these sides.

Erik's Deli is the perfect place to stop for a quick meal after exiting the subway line on your way to the Frank Lloyd Wright structures in Oak Park! I cannot speak about before the remodel, but the place looked super which is why we picked it for lunch. There was large menu on the wall with a good selection of items - making the choice difficult at times as everything looked so good! I have read good things about their fries, but after my breakfast, I decided I needed to pass... they did look good though. There were several families with very young kids, so I'd say this is family friendly. The prices were in line with what I expected for a deli of this caliber. The staff was helpful and friendly. Enjoy.

Salad bar lovers need apply! Totally sneeze-proof, always fresh, made to order and lots of options. The salads are sold by the pound and very affordable (mine usually run about $4.50 and are enough for an entire meal.) The Thousand Island dressing is the best I've ever tasted. Be sure to ask for the complimentary breadstick when getting take out. The other menu items worth noting are the Pita Chips appetizer and the Grilled Three Cheese (I get easy onions.) The pita chips are homemade and chewy.. The grilled cheese is a generous portion with a choice of fresh fruit or fries on the side.

This place is probably the perfect sandwich shop. Their menu is full of classics and specialty items. They have been around since before I was born. And they have the best handcut fries and chips anywhere. The Erik burger is one menu item I will remember for the rest of my life. It is always tasty and made to perfection, with crispy fried onions and pickles. I also love the French Chicken - a delicious chicken salad sandwich on a croissant roll. Some may complain that the prices are high, but honestly, you get what you pay for. If your looking for cheap crap go to burger king or something and eat the cheap crap. This is a place for people who like the good stuff. Also, they recently remodeled and the place looks amazing! They also brought back the salad bar(finally). Its the same Eriks as before, now just with a much needed update.

I have gone here for years and usually get the same thing a roast beef on croissant with swiss and bacon. I love it but after the remodel now the roast beef is not the same real kind they used to have but more of a fake almost loaf type. I still love the chips and my wife and a co-worker both loved theirs but I was really disapointed. The place does look a lot better then it did but they need to keep the quality up if they want business to pick up.

I thought this place was pretty good. A friend and I needed a quick bite to eat, and he mentioned this place. I'm always up for trying a new place and checking it out. There is a lot to choose from, anywhere from appetizers to hot and cold sandwiches to things like quiche and burritos, wraps, paninis and salads. I decided to try the veggie panini, it had roasted red & green peppers, avocados, zucchini, lettuce, tomato, mushrooms, mozzarella & this garlic mayo sauce on it. Also came with fries or fruit. I decided to go all the way on this one and get the fries which were pretty good, they were seasoned well. I would definitly come back to this place again. Great place to go for a quick bite to eat.

So happy that Erik's went through a total remodel. I stopped going there years ago because it had a weird smell - like Lysol - that didn't make it a pleasant place in which to eat. Well, the smell is gone, but the menu remains the same! I had my favorite - turkey Louise - and it was so nice to hear the cashier ask, "fries, fruit or chips?" The breakfast menu looks the same too, so I'll be back for that. Unfortunately, the umbrella tables are gone - but the place has a very nice modern look. And - the rest room doors do not open up into the dining area. The feng shui is right on target.

So this is a quick post-remodel review of Erik's as I hadn't been then since the redo. I'm going to say I like it. Because it's a thousand times better than the old Erik's Deli however that said, I'm not a fan of it. It lacks personality and warmth. It feels more like an East German prison than a deli. From the wrought iron fencing to the cold steel letters behind the counter I felt more like a number than a customer. Don't get me wrong - the food is still fantastic, the service too. But for the caliber of class this place is, the interior leaves a lot to be desired. stopped in for a quick takeout dinner. i tried the chicken finger wrap on an employee's recommendation. it was huuuuge and came with a ton of fries. you really can't go wrong with chicken tenders, ranch and cheese. i'm excited to try something maybe a little more "specialized" next time. great first experience, though.

Excellent both sit down, and take out. The chicken fingers are to die for. I love the new look since the relaunch. The chicken fajita quesadilla is excellent. The Erik Burger, I highly reccomend.

Jan 2011 - 1st visit here since it reopened. The remodel looks very nice. I ordered a cheeseburger and French onion soup. The burger was very greasy. Not good. The soup was good. The service was a little slow but polite. I will try again but will stick to the salad bar.

Ok, so my 5 stars are based on nostalgia...fond memories of dining with my granny underneath the umbrella in the corner. Arent good memories part of the dining experience? I have never had bad food at Eriks. I love the veggie burger and will drive for miles on end to get a Mother Nature served on the onion roll. Wow, Eriks...so many happy memories my family and I shared there...ok, I am going to go cry now...

Pricey for what you get, and greasier than I'd expect, but yummy. I'm always looking for places to study, and the chrome counter facing the windows is great. The staff is very nice. I go here every couple weeks because it's so convenient and they don't mind if I sit and do some work; otherwise, I probably wouldn't go. Unless you have a major deli sandwich craving, it's not worth a special trip.

This is not a deli. This is a greasy spoon disguised as a deli. Free refills on drinks. If you are expecting hams hanging from the roof and real deli sandwiches..you will be disappointed.

One of my go to spots near home for a bite. I love the homemade chips and chicken fingers the most. I've tried a few other sandwiches as well. The grilled chicken sandwich is huuuuge and pretty delicious. The prices seem high but they give you a lot. Wait for food can take a bit at times too.

Maybe I just ordered something bad, but the sandwich I got (grilled ham) was super greasy and the mustard was way too strong. A couple of my friends got the taco salad and it was so greasy the chip bowl was too soggy to eat after about two minutes. Not a place to go if you are looking for healthy options.

My nose was dripping. Non-stop. I had handfuls of napkins and Kleenex. Yes, I had a sinus infection. But it didn't stop me from riding the bus to the Green Line, boarding, and traveling into Oak Park for the singular purpose of eating at Erik's. My boyfriend had raved about the joint, as he'd been there a few times because we have friends that live out in the area (nice folks, really). So I was all game for a Sunday lunch, despite my condition. He'd expressed great joy over their croissant sandwiches, and I was truly intrigued. We arrived prior to the rolling down of the tarp over the breakfast menu, but that was okay, the sandwiches were what we'd come to conquer. I ordered a turkey and cheese on croissant (I can't remember the specifics, this was last month!). I got the fries with it and until it arrived, we noshed on the homemade potato chips that were absolutely divine. The food didn't take long to arrive, and let me tell you, it was probably one of THE best sandwiches I've ever had. It was fresh, soft, full of flavor and I managed to be full enough from half of the sandwich (these are BIG croissants!) and some fries, that I took my sammich home. It made for a stellar late afternoon snack (it kept very well in the fridge). I think next time I'll branch out for something else, at least a dessert from their vast menu. But perchance I'll stick to the sandwich I got ... because you can't find a croissant sandwich like that where I'm from. And even with goo dripping from your nose, it's able to be enjoyed!

An Oak Park institution. Good sandwiches, marvelous fresh-cut fries, and a salad bar with lots of choices. Also a decent kids menu. You order at the counter, pay, and get sent to find a table balancing your drinks and one of those numbers-on-a-stick on your tray. I think their burger is quite good, and also like their quiche. My daughter gets the chicken fingers or popcorn shrimp. They also serve ice cream, but we're always too full to get any.

I am actually giving this restaurant 0 stars so I guess I'm in a different place than the other Yelpers. My husband and I found ourselves in Oak Park with about an 1 1/2 to kill. Right off the bat, we eye Erik's ... looks full and cute. We wandered around but since it was all about breakfast or lunch, we went in. The place was about 1/3 empty so we walked up to place our order. I decided on the "Sunday Special" 1/2 a Turkey Louise (turkey & cran) and cup of soup (beef barley) and my husband wanted an omelet. I turned to a cashier and asked, " Should I place my order with you?" She answered with all the personality and enthusiasm of a napkin, "If you want". Gee so sorry to bother you with our order. She then asked my husband if he wanted fruit or hash browns and of course he took the spuds. We sat and within minutes our food was out! The hash browns were a bowl of fried potato chunks. Not like any hash browns I've ever seen. My beef barley soup was bright red and tasteless, and my poor pathetic sandwich was a soggy mess. Served Club style, Erik's chose to put all the turkey on one side completely separate from the cranberry sauce because of that stupid piece of soggy bread! That's why they TOAST bread when they make club sandwiches especially with cran sauce. It was absolutely the worst sandwich I have ever had and I've eaten sandwiches at the Hans Brinker Youth Hostel in Amsterdam!!!!! Even my crackers were a pre-crushed mess. The only thing that saved the day was the latte and cookie at Caribou across the street because with an hour still to kill I was not about to spend any more time there. Really BAD experience.

The remodel of the place made a huge difference. I wasn't a big fan of Erik's Deli until my friend brought me to it again when it was remodeled, and now I am in love with it. Quick Service friendly staff, and very affordable. Food is very tasty, there is a wide choice range from chicken wings, to hot sandwhiches, cold sandwhiches, pasta, and dessert! If you go I highly reconmend the chicken tenders and fries, and the blt wraps. Food is fresh and comes out super hot! Will I go back in again? Of course!

to start, they make homemade chips which are awesome. you can either get them with cheese smothering them or with sour cream and chives. i recommend the cheese. i also tried the mother nature's treat sandwich which probably wasn't the best choice because the menu is full of meat-y sandwiches. my sandwich was pretty bland. something that should be noted is that the atmosphere is kinda strange... there's a fake italian village scene on one wall and outdoor patio umbrellas over a few of the tables inside. if you're in oak park though, it's worth a visit for the chips.

Erik's has lots of very comfortable classics to offer - from cheese fries with real cheddar cheese and the skins on to french onion soup with a heapin' helping of cheese on top. I rarely make it back into town without making a trip to Erik's to be comforted...

oh! I can't believed I haven't yelped Erik's yet! It's a perfect place for when you don't want a full sit-down meal but you want better quality and atmosphere than a fast-food joint. Order first at the counter and they bring your food to your table. I have been here many times and always have a good experience- their veggie burgers are my favorites ever ever ever; they put a wonderful sauce on them, and I am a condiment junkie.... great fresh salad bar, lots of choices, good place to bring kids. yum yum.

My kids love this place! . it's getting a bit more expensive than it used to be but it's nice to take your family out to just get a bite.. Nothing fancy about it but the food is good.

I hadn't been to the old Erik's. I heard many good things. I recently went to the new Erik's. Yes, it lived up to my expectations. I love delis-point blank. I had the banker which consisted of bacon and turkey. So good. I can't wait to go back and try out some of their other sandwiches. By the way the renovation looks great.

This was the first place we ate at it Oak Park. When we went inside it was empty, like really empty, so we were a little scared. Especially after seeing so many people milling about the area. It turns out we were just a little earlier then most, because by the time we left it had started to fill up. They have a wide variety and a ton of choices and really good sized portions. I will be definitely go back.

Great Sandwiches, Great Fries, Great Salads - just a very good place to go for lunch or dinner if you're looking for a good specialty sandwich...and a great place for carryout. One of the best. Sister location in Willowbrook is good too.

I have tried a variety of entries at Erik's. I have liked everything I have tried here, but the only item that I absolutely love eating is there homemade potato chips. They are very tasty. Erik's also has an ice cream section which I have tried once. It was good ice cream, but it doesn't compare to the other ice cream shops in the neighborhood. Overall if you are looking for a variety of sandwiches or food items I would definitely go here. I would have to say though that the prices are a little bit much for the entries, due to it's basically a sit-in deli type of establishment.

During my student teaching I would come here almost every Tuesday for lunch. The atmosphere is nice and casual, the people at the counter were always friendly, and the food was delicious. When you first walk in you are greeted by the salad bar which boasts of being the largest salad bar in Oak Park. I don't know if it's true, but they do have a great selection of items. Continuing towards the counter to place your order you then have to stare down the large chalk boards and banners of menu items and that's where the trouble begins. So many things to choose from. The wraps are pretty good, from what I've seen the salads are good, the BF enjoyed his hamburger, but my all time favorite is The Crane. Just trust me, it's delicious. My only complaint is that sometimes it was too greasy, but when you're just in that certain mood that makes it even better. Another perk of Eric's is the free homemade potato chips. Make sure to stop by the bowl on the way to your seat and get some. The french fries were usually my biggest problem. They were wonderful homemade shoe string fries, but usually too greasy and this time not in the good way. When they did come out done well they were perfect, but not often enough so I usually just went with the fresh fruit for my side. While I love the food at Eric's the price sometimes seems just a little absurd considering the type of food and how much you get so I reserve it for days that I'm really craving this kind of food, which isn't that often sadly. Of course compared to the surrounding restaurants it's prices are very reasonable. If you're in the neighborhood though give it a try. You'll really enjoy it.

So bad, there just arent enough words for it. Erik's needs to cut down the menu and fire whomever is making the food right now if they want to stay in business. We ordered an appetizer of the steak nachos and what we got was totally inedible. The meat tasted freezer-burned, the beans were burned and the chips stale. I think we ate about 1% of this before shoving it aside. My husband got a burger and I got a panini and didn't fare any better. Stale, congealed, over-cooked, all of these apply. I should have just had the ice cream and stayed away from anything that had to be prepared.

Erik's has been re-done with a new modern decor. It looks really nice and has a bit more seating. The menu does not appear to have had a makeover, though it did seem a bit smaller. It was unclear if they are still open for brunch, that was my favorite time to go. The salad bar is no longer self serve, but behind the counter. Food was good though a bit steep for a sandwich lunch.

I grew up eating here and have always loved Erik's. I was very disgusted when I ate there this past weekend. First of all, it was dead for a Saturday night. While we were waiting for our food, a mouse ran by our table!!! I wanted to leave, but my sister did not want to make a scene. We got our food and it was terrible. I had the tuna melt, which used to be my favorite tuna melt growing up, and it was bland and tasteless and served without a pickle. I can only assume management has changed. It was not the same atmosphere I have been used too. We walked in and it was empty, there used to be a line. The man who was sweeping the floor took our order, in the past they had servers who would do that and bus boys who cleaned. I am very disappointed and can Erik's will be a place in the past as I will never eat here again!

this used to be a great Restaurant, I grew up going here and had my lunch here when I worked in the area. WHAT HAPPENED? It's filthy, the bathrooms are gross, and the waitstaff I encountered had a ridiculous attitude! as for the food it has changed and become just so-so, better in my memories. now I hear that there are new owners, I hope they hurry and get a grip on this sad turn of events before even the nostalgic people turn away! P.S. BRING BACK THE SALAD BAR!

The best thing there is the Grilled 3 Cheese sandwich: 3 cheeses (obviously), mushrooms, grilled onions and garlic mayo. Oh and their homemade fries. Everything else seems to be hit or miss.

This is what I term the perfect little deli for deli food. I've been here several times and it fails to disappoint. What I like about this place is the variety of 'healthy' sandwich choices. Even the not so healthy choices sound healthy. They also make their own chips, so you've gotta try those. They are delicious. Some might think they are a bit pricey, but you know the saying...you get what you pay for. Splurge on a little healthy food stuff, people!!

I love this place. They have a great selection form health conscience patrons and specialty sodas. During the week they a great salad bar that's well maintained and always fresh. Also, they do a breakfast bar on Sundays. As far as price goes, it's on par with places like Boston Market.
